A dump truck enters the portal to the underground mine at the Kirkland Lake Gold-linked Fosterville Gold Mine in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. Production in the goldfields of Victoria state has been rising in tandem with the rising gold price. Output has climbed to the highest level since 1914, with mining companies dig deeper and new technology helping to uncover once hidden and richer deposits in a region that almost rivalled the Californian gold rush and was thought to have petered out decades ago.
