Leading international manufacturer of intralogistics systems in the field of conveying and loading systems, sorting and distribution the BEUMER Group has acquired supplier of conveying systems and loading technology FAM GmbH.

The contracts were signed with the expectation that the transaction would be completed by the end of May and the acquisition will significantly strengthen the BEUMER Group’s market position in the large equipment sector.

The FAM Group, with headquarters in Magdeburg, Germany, is a global medium-sized group with a tradition of manufacturing conveying systems dating back to the nineteenth century.

FAM is one of the world’s leading full-range suppliers of bulk materials handling and processing plants. The company plans, designs and manufactures turnkey plants and systems for mining, conveying, loading and storing minerals, raw materials and goods.

FAM employs about 750 people at its headquarters and subsidiaries in Brazil, Chile, China, Canada and India, with representatives worldwide.

According to the analysis of industry experts, the business area of the two companies complements one another because the BEUMER Group is also focusing on conveying technology in mining and minerals.

BEUMER Group, with over 4 500 employees across 70 countries, has been consistently established in the bulk materials technology market, and FAM’s leading technology for transporting and processing minerals fits well with BEUMER Group’s portfolio.

The BEUMER Group will, in the future, be supplemented by the know-how and global setup of FAM in the project planning of systems because, in addition to planning and engineering, FAM provides solutions for the entire value chain, including aftersales service.

On the other hand, the BEUMER Group offers FAM a long-term perspective based on high quality, sustainability and innovation.

The BEUMER Group has been developing tailor-made system solutions for mining for about 90 years.

BEUMER Group managing partner and CEO Dr Christoph Beumer confirms that this takeover underpins the company’s long-term orientation in the extraction, processing and handling of raw materials.

Beumer says the company motto is long-term success over short-term profit.

“It is necessary to act in a straight line even through difficult economic times.”

He further emphasises that the company is consistently investing in a qualitative expansion of its portfolio.

“Management is pleased to have found a strategic investor with the BEUMER Group. We see great potential for sustainable growth in orders and sales. In this context, the acquisition makes much sense,” FAM MD Torsten Gerlach concludes.
