Holistic approach contributes to Weir’s success

A history spanning 150 years of strategic development has positioned minerals processing equipment firm Weir Minerals as one of the few companies to provide holistic services and integrated pumping solutions across the full spectrum of applications across the mining, minerals processing, engineering and industrial sectors.

The strategy has proven fruitful as Weir Minerals now has extensive engineered-to-order (ETO) capabilities, integrated solutions and a broad product offering that includes dewatering pumps, chemical pumps, mill circuit pumps and pontoon-mounted pumping solutions, besides others.

“It has been a history of 150 years of integrating various components. Weir Minerals has really been very innovative in the way that they have structured the business,” Weir Minerals Africa pump products GM Marnus Koorts tells Mining Weekly.

Becoming an holistic provider of fit-for-purpose, integrated pump solutions and streamlining its offerings in the minerals sector, as well as having an extensive understanding of the specific requirements of its clients and the extent of the overall products and solutions available, enables Weir Minerals Africa to be a “one-stop-shop” for pumping solutions.

“We have a wide range of products that can be customised and tailor-made to suit the specific needs of a customer, from underground in mine shafts to deep in the pits to above ground,” he continues, highlighting the company’s extensive footprint and close collaboration with customers.

“Our ETO offering is ever expanding, and we find new and unique ways to incorporate pumps into other solutions to benefit the customer.”

He comments that customers require value-addition, rather than just product replacement.

“That is really where we are very strong,” he comments, adding that the scale of the business also allows Weir Minerals to establish branch infrastructure in most of the key mining hubs all around Africa and the world.

This, in turn, enables the company to gain in-depth knowledge of its customers and the regions they operate in.

“We truly understand our customers’ challenges because we have feet on the ground. Our strategic intent has always been to be where our customers need us to be.”

Further, Weir Minerals Africa continues to extend its sales and service network across the African continent and the Middle East.

In addition, another benefit for its clients is that the company can seamlessly transfer the technologies, he says highlighting, for example, the transfer of technologies from the Warman WRT product range into the popular Envirotech range.

“A large portion of the industry that is using the Envirotech range can now benefit from the WRT technology.”

He also emphasises Weir Minerals Africa’s significant local manufacturing capability, which enables the company to control its supply chain, improve lead times and increase the company’s ability to service the customer efficiently.

Weir Minerals Africa showcased many of these products and technology-driven solutions at Electra Mining, where the company had a stand.

Weir Minerals Africa’s brands, including Warman, GEHO, Cavex, Enduron, Trio, Delta Industrial, Linatex and Isodry, were featured at its stand.
