Horizon mines first ore at Boorara gold project
The Boorara gold project, near the Super Pit mine in the Western Australian goldfields, remains on track for first ore delivery this month, despite some labour shortages at site, MD and CEO Grant Haywood reported on Thursday.
Mining started in August on a single shift and first ore was exposed and mined in late September. Night shift operations are starting this week to increase production rates.
Horizon plans to establish an ore stockpile of 40 000 t to 50 000 t at Boorara, before starting hauling. Ore will be processed at Norton Gold Fields’ Paddington plant.
“The pouring of gold will occur in a high gold price environment delivering first revenue from Boorara very shortly,” commented Haywood.
Horizon approved the development of Boorara in late July to mine a series of four openpits containing 1.24-million tonnes of ore at 1.24 g/t gold for 49 500 oz of gold.
