Indonesian steel manufacturer places furnace order
One of Indonesia’s largest steel manufac- turers, Gunung Steel Group, has placed an order with global steel processing technology supplier SMS Siemag Germany for the supply of an Arccess electric arc furnace and a ladle furnace for its new steelmaking plant complex, in Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia.
Commissioning of the furnaces is scheduled for the middle of 2013, says SMS Siemag.
The furnaces are capable of producing 1.2-million tons a year while the range of charge materials for the electric arc furnace includes scrap, hot-briquetted iron and hot metal.
With its new equipment, Gunung will produce high-quality steel and supply a slab caster, also ordered from SMS Siemag, with liquid steel.
SMS Siemag’s scope of supply includes the engineering, the mechanical and the hydraulic equipment and the company’s X-Pact electrical and automation systems, which will be commissioned according to the proven ‘plug and play’ concept.
The Arccess series of electric arc furnaces makes highly efficient use of electrical and chemical energy and will be equipped with the latest generation of the patented SMS Injection System, an oxygen injection system that combines innovative injection and burner technologies.
This concept enables high productivity while keeping production costs low.
At the Bekasi works, Gunung operates a long-product line for the production of sections and wire rods, as well as a flat-product line for the production of heavy plates and pipes.
All major production lines at Gunung’s Bekasi works have been supplied by companies in the SMS group.
