Industrial supplier expands range of high-pressure pumps
DURCO MARK 3 ISO The new chemical process pump can be used in dewtaering and slurry processing
Pumps, valves, seals and components manufacturer Flowserve announced the launch of its line of high-pressure Durco Mark 3 ISO chemical process pumps at the 2015 ACHEMA World Forum, in June.
Pump applications include galvanising and applying other coatings, dewatering and water supply, as well as slurry processing,
Flowserve industrial pump operations president Bob Hendricks says the higher-pressure pumps were released in response to increasing demand from major chemical companies and refineries for ISO 2858- and ISO 5199-certified pumps, rated up to 362.6 psi.
ISO 2858 specifies the core dimensions and minimal duty point of end-suction centrifugal pumps with a maximum operating rating of 232 psi.
Pumps conforming to ISO 2858 specifications generally also conform to ISO 5199, which specifies the requirements for Class II centri- fugal pumps of single-stage, multistage, horizontal or vertical construction.
This standard includes design features entailing installation, maintenance and safety for these pumps, including baseplate, couplings, and auxiliary piping, but it does not specify any requirements for the driver other than those related to its rated power output.
“The introduction of higher-pressure variants to the Durco Mark 3 ISO pumps line is in response to an industry move to higher operating temperatures in some chemical processes and an increased focus on process safety,” says Hendricks.
He adds that the sealed Durco Mark 3 ISO pumps are designed to operate up to a pressure rating of 232 psi. The new high-pressure casings match the hydraulic performance, dimensions and branch location of the standard casing.
However, when three-dimensional modelling and finite element analysis are used, the pressure rating of the pump is increased up to 362.6 psi, dependent on material and temperature, with minimal increase in weight.
Moreover, Hendricks confirms that all other pressure-containing parts are also rated up to 362.6 psi.
The pumps are available in a wide range of materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel and reactive alloys such as titanium and zirconium.
The range has more than 30 pump models that are fully compliant with ISO 2858 duty conditions and dimensional requirements.
The high-pressure casings and associated components have been designed for use with the sealed Durco Mark 3 ISO power-end components to ensure a high degree of interchangeability, thereby minimising spare parts inventory.
Durco Mark 3 ISO pumps have capacities of up to 1 400 m3/h and heads of up to 220 m. Discharge nozzle sizes range from 32 mm to 200 mm and operating temperatures from –80 °C to 400 °C.
The efficiencies and net positive suction head of the higher-pressure variants are the same as the standard sealed Durco Mark 3 ISO with ISO 2858 compliant hydraulics.
The Durco Mark 3 ISO higher- pressure pumps range is CE marked and compliant with all applicable European Directives, such as the Machinery Directive and the Atex directives, which describe the minimum safety level required for machinery and regulate equipment and working conditions in environments with explosive atmospheres.
The pumps also have GOST certification, which means they comply with standards stipulated by the Euro-Asian Council for Standardisation, Metrology and Certification.
The Mark 3 ISO pump was one of the highlights of Flowserve’s 2015 ACHEMA stand. ACHEMA is an international exhibition congress on chemical engineering, environ- mental protection and bio- technology. The 2015 event was held in Messe, Frankfurt, from June 15 to 19.
Flowserve is one of the world's leading providers of fluid motion and control products and services. Operating in more than 55 countries, the company produces engineered and industrial pumps, seals and valves, as well as a range of related flow management services.
The International Organisation for Standardisation is a worldwide federation of national standards institutes (ISO member bodies). The work of developing international standards is carried out through ISO technical committees. Every member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been set up has the right to be represented on that committee. International organisations, governmental and non- governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work.
