Integrating training technology into mining operations
The Cybermine high-fidelity full mission simulator allows for realistic, ‘practical’ training in a safe, cost-effective environment
Training technologies provider ThoroughTec Simulation will be demonstrating a number of new developments at Electra Mining Africa 2016, reinforcing the company’s drive to provide mines with powerful training and workforce development technologies.
This will be ThoroughTec’s eighth Electra Mining Africa show.
“The star of the show will undoubtedly be the unveiling and demonstration of our brand new Cybermine integrated training management platform,” says ThoroughTec regional VP: Europe, the Middle East and Africa Adam Smallman.
“This ‘first-of-class’ system will serve as a foundation for the measurement and improvement of mine operator performance through full-spectrum, key performance indicator-driven training.”
“Naturally, we will also be demonstrating the latest version of our Cybermine high-fidelity full-mission simulator, in this case, for the training of Komatsu 930E haul truck operators. These advanced, fourth-generation simulators remain the cornerstone of our integrated training system, allowing for highly realistic, ‘practical’ training in a safe, cost-effective and controlled environment,” notes Smallman.
ThoroughTec’s in-house e-learning development team will also show off its latest Cybermine e-learning architecture for various vehicles.
“E-learning systems have evolved considerably over the years and ThoroughTec prides itself on staying ahead of the market as new technologies and methods emerge,” says Smallman.
Specifically designed to engage operators, these custom e-learning systems guide recruits through a particular vehicle’s basic controls and operation, as well as providing mining environment and site procedure orientation.
“They are incredibly interactive, ensuring learners are totally engaged and advance at their own pace,” says Smallman.
“Human development and community upliftment are key parts of the Cybermine training philosophy,” says executive VP: operations Richard Bellengere.
“Integrating the world’s best training technology into mining operations is what we do to achieve that – it’s what we do best.”
ThoroughTec started life as a military simulation company, quickly establishing itself as the de facto supplier of landward simulator systems for the South African military. This foundation of quality-driven military engineering, supported the development of the Cybermine range of mining equipment simulators and workforce optimisation solutions, all of which, the company says, enjoy a reputation for unmatched performance, reliability and low cost of ownership.
ThoroughTec’s headquarters and production facility are in Durban, South Africa, with global sales and support subsidiary offices in Perth, Australia; Santiago, Chile; Toronto, Canada; Salt Lake City, the US; and Moscow, Russia.
