Originally trained in financial accounting and IT systems, Invincible Valves MD and CEO Pam du Plessis’s career path seemed unlikely to land her in heavy industry. She began as a contractor building Accpac reports for Invincible Valves in 2007, and never left. Within a year, she became a shareholder and, seven years later, stepped into the role of MD. Du Plessis's journey transformed her from an outsider to a visionary leader in a male-dominated sector.

Under her leadership, Invincible Valves has grown from a specialist in reconditioning and rubber lining into a fully integrated manufacturer and supplier, securing business across a broad range of industries globally. Boasting their own Inval brand and machine shop, the company has a dynamic way of working with people.

Du Plessis's approach is grounded in culture and empowerment, with Invincible Valves investing heavily in its team and broader community. Fostering a people-centred workplace tied to wellbeing, education and mentorship are efforts that have earned her many awards, including, most recently, the 2024 Business Woman of the Year Award from the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa (Seifsa).

Du Plessis leads by example and is driven by a vision of sustained growth, local empowerment and excellence. serving on Seifsa’s board and actively advocating for transformation, transparency and innovation and, in so doing, breaking stereotypes in a traditionally male field, with competence, not gender defining authority. Invincible Valves supports learnerships, apprenticeships and accredited training programmes through partnerships, all while navigating complex local challenges, such as power cuts, water constraints and loadshedding, by investing in generators, solar solutions and resilient operations.

Now focused on continued diversification, self-sufficient manufacturing, expanded valve and actuator lines  and strengthening regional presence across Africa, she balances deep social purpose with robust commercial strategy.

Du Plessis, along with her dedicated and highly skilled team at Invincible Valves, inspires the industry with her visionary leadership, company culture, sector transformation and innovation. Pragmatic yet purpose driven, her success demonstrates how technical acumen, business savvy and inclusive leadership can reshape an industry.
