LANDMARK QUARRY: Cement, ready-mix concrete and aggregates company AfriSam earlier this month took journalists on a tour of its Jukskei granite quarry, in Midrand. This landmark quarry, founded in a rural setting in the 1950s, today showcases quality control, safety and environmental protection in what become a developed urban area. The quarry is located across the N1 highway from the modern Waterfall City precinct, as well as businesses, warehouses and the Gautrain depot. The quarry adheres to international best practices for dust, noise and vibration suppression, as well as blast management and consulting.
