Barbara Makhubedu comes from a small village in Bushbuckridge and is a proud mother. With a BCom from UCT, Postgraduate Diploma in Tax and a qualified chartered accountant, Makhubedu champions purposeful leadership. She is passionate about mentoring women and creating platforms for young professionals to thrive. As a sponsor, she is intentional about availing a seat at the table for women and youth, most of whom have progressed in their chosen careers locally and outside South Africa.

Liberty Two Degrees (L2D), part of Standard Bank Group, manages iconic assets like Sandton City and Eastgate Shopping Centre. “It’s not just about bricks and returns, it’s about impact - the difference that L2D makes in the communities that it serves.”

“My philosophy is aligned to exactly that, through sponsorship, I am able to be a guiding light in another woman’s career by advocating for their capabilities in rooms where they are not present, effectively making a difference in their lives and enabling them to do the same for other woman. This is my personal best achievement.”

Makhubedu urges women to take up space, embrace opportunities, and lift others as they rise. “Advocate, support and sponsor others with humility and kindness. That’s how we build lasting legacies.”
