Liontown to hold first digital spodumene auction
ASX-listed Liontown Resources has partnered with Metalshub to launch its first digital auction for spodumene concentrate from the Kathleen Valley lithium operation in Western Australia.
The partnership will enable Liontown to host a series of online bidding events, offering global buyers transparent access to product pricing and supply. The company’s first auction, for 10 000 t of spodumene concentrate, will take place on November 19 via metals-hub.com.
Liontown said the collaboration with Metalshub would streamline and digitalise its spot sales process, supporting the company’s goal of delivering long-term value for customers and shareholders across the clean energy supply chain.
CEO Tony Ottaviano said the move was in line with Liontown’s strategy to promote transparent lithium pricing.
“From the inception of our marketing strategy, Liontown has been clear with its position that a transparent, auditable and liquid price index is crucial to establishing a long-term sustainable lithium industry,” Ottaviano said.
“Utilising Metalshub for our first digital spot sales auction will improve price transparency for spodumene, giving more customers an opportunity to bid on Liontown cargoes.”
Located in Western Australia’s northern Goldfields, Kathleen Valley is among the world’s first underground lithium mines and operates on about 80% renewable energy. The mine achieved first production in July 2024 from its fourth-generation processing plant.
Liontown plans to continue hosting spodumene auctions into 2026 and beyond, providing competitive access for international buyers seeking responsibly produced lithium supply.
