Battery metals investment and exploration company Marula Mining's Southern African Lithium and Tantalum Mining subsidiary has been awarded a mining permit for its Blesberg lithium and tantalum mine, in the Northern Cape.

The mining permit, which is valid for a period of two years until May 24, 2026, and extends over 5 ha, allows for development and openpit mining of lithium, tantalum and niobium ores, as well as feldspar, at Blesberg. It is in addition to the already approved stockpile reprocessing operations.

The mining permit allows for the company to progress openpit mining and development activities while the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) completes its approval process for the mining right application that has been accepted by the DMPR.

Marula is now proceeding with initial surface development work and clearance activities and will then look to commence the planned openpit development and conventional openpit drill-and-blast and load-and-haul mining operations.

The company is in the process of appointing a local mining contractor for this development work and the associated openpit mining activities and this is expected to be completed in the current quarter.
