Eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex, in Limpopo, South Africa.

Project Owner/s
Marula is 73% owned by Impala Platinum (Implats).

Project Description
Marula comprises two decline shaft systems and a concentrator plant. The mine’s concentrate is processed by Impala Refining Services.

The project will extend the life of the Marula mine by 15 years to the 2045 financial year, with an increase of about 20% in milling capacity to 2.4-million tonnes a year.

The project to expand and extend Marula’s life-of-mine started in 2022. Steady-state production is expected in FY2028.

During the financial year ended June 30, 2023, the programme to expand mining and milling by 20% was split into discrete projects — for the two mining complexes and the plant — to facilitate optimal resource allocation and funding while maintaining production targets.
