NATIONAL SCOURGE

NATIONAL SCOURGE: South Africa finally declared the spate of food poisonings that have led to the death of more than 20 children this year national disaster. The deaths have been linked to food bought from township spaza shops containing traces of chemical compounds used in insecticides. Until municipal refuse services are dramatically improved the use of such poisons to control pests will remain a deadly threat to vulnerable residents.
