NO PEACE WITHOUT JUSTICE

NO PEACE WITHOUT JUSTICE: Protests erupted across the US this month following the agonising and filmed death of George Floyd. Floyd succumbed to asphyxiation when Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin held him down during an arrest by using his knee on Floyd’s neck and back for nearly nine minutes. Some of the protests turned violent and there were cases of looting. Nevertheless, the protestors still succeeded in highlighting ongoing abuse of African Americans at the hands of police officers, as well as the deep racial disparities and injustices that continue to prevail in that country. For this reason, the protests have been seen by many inside and outside the US as an act of true patriotism. Photograph: Bloomberg
