Paramount Gold advances Oregon mine

Oregon regulators have released a draft consolidated permit package for its Grassy Mountain project, marking the first time the state has advanced a mining development through its unified permitting framework, reports Paramount Gold Nevada.

The Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) published the draft on behalf of all cooperating state agencies, the NYSE American-listed company said Monday. The package covers construction, operations, closure and long-term monitoring for the planned underground gold mine in Malheur county.

“This is a landmark achievement for both Grassy Mountain and the state of Oregon,” CEO Rachel Goldman said. “It demonstrates that well-designed, environmentally responsible mining projects can advance in Oregon.”

The release triggers a public-review phase, with DOGAMI scheduling a hearing for January 29 in Vale, Oregon. Written comments will be accepted through February 6. After the comment period closes, the regulator may revise the package before issuing the final permits.

Grassy Mountain would be a small-footprint underground operation, designed to provide local employment and economic activity. The project sits on private and federal land and is fully located on private ground for its gold/silver resource. Paramount has previously completed a positive feasibility study.

Paramount holds full ownership of three projects — Grassy Mountain, the Sleeper project in Nevada, and the Bald Peak project — and says its strategy includes developing assets internally, selling them to producers, or forming joint ventures.
