Name of the Project
Pilanesberg Platinum Mines (PPM) energy project.
Location
South Africa’s North West province.
Project Owner/s
PPM, a subsidiary of Sedibelo Resources.
Project Description
By 2025, Sedibelo aims to source at least 50% of its total electricity requirements from renewable sources. It has, thus, embarked on a series of projects to provide renewable energy to its mining operations, subject to further feasibility studies.
Sedibelo plans two phases of renewable energy supply.
Phase 1 entails the provision of 47 MW of wind-generated power through a wheeling arrangement. The project is expected to provide about 50% of PPM’s energy requirements, starting in 2025.
Phase 2 entails the development of an on-site 50 MW solar facility, to supplement the wheeled wind power, which will be located at or near the PPM.
