Pioneering change in the industrial sector
The Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ) continues the drive to support women, who have long been underrepresented in the industrial sector, acknowledging that women bring a unique perspective and set of skills to the table. The move and emphasis of inclusive economic growth by government is crucial in further recognising that the participation of women in the industrial sector can help drive innovation and create a more dynamic work environment.
However, despite the progress that has been made in recent years, there are still barriers that prevent women from pursuing careers and making an impact in industrial fields. These barriers include societal expectations, lack of mentorship and support, amongst other things.
It is for these reasons that the RBIDZ prioritises the role of women in youth-owned businesses through incubation and mentorship programmes. In addition, there is a greater focus on enterprise and suppliers’ development.
Thriving Women in Business – under the RBIDZ Wing
In line with its mandate of job creation, beneficiation of mineral resources, transfer of skills and in the quest of balancing gender equity, the RBIDZ has committed to empowering women-owned businesses through its diverse enterprise development programmes, which includes procurement opportunities, supplier development programmes, socio-economic development programmes as well as business linages with current and potential investors through Nalithemba Enterprise Development Programme.
