Puma Exploration temporarily halts activities in New Brunswick on wildfire risk
Canadian mineral exploration company focused on identifying and developing a pipeline of precious metals projects in New Brunswick, near Canada's Renowned Bathurst Mining Camp, has temporarily halted all exploration operations using heavy equipment such as excavation, trenching and drilling at its properties in the province following the province's ban on Crown land activities prompted by extreme wildfire hazard.
"Due to exceptionally dry and hazardous conditions, all activities on Crown land have been suspended until further notice. This is an unprecedented situation in all my years of working in New Brunswick.
"Our thoughts are with the local community and residents of New Brunswick, and we send our heartfelt thanks to the firefighters who are relentlessly fighting the blazes currently burning in the province," comments Puma Exploration president and CEO Marcel Robillard.
The New Brunswick government reported earlier this week that staff from the Department of Natural Resources and other agencies were continuing to fight wildfires in various areas of the province, with some of the fires being "out of control".
“Conditions in our province are very dry and hot right now, and that puts us at real risk for our existing fires to grow and for new fires to start," Natural Resources Minister John Herron said in an August 11 statement.
By 16:00 on August 14, there were 13 active fires in the province, with six being patrolled, three contained, one under control and three out of control.
In light of the wildfire hazard, the province has prohibited all industrial and recreational activities on Crown land – any land that is not privately owned – in New Brunswick until further notice.
Puma Exploration holds a portfolio of prospective gold landholdings strategically located close to roads and infrastructure in northern New Brunswick, including the Williams Brook project and the new McKenzie gold project.
