Name of the Project
Quellaveco copper mine expansion.

Location
Moquegua region, Peru.

Project Owner/s
Global mining company Anglo American.

Project Description
Quellaveco has a life-of-mine of 36 years. The mine is projected to deliver about 300 000 t/y of copper on average in the first ten years of operation.

There is significant expansion potential that could sustain production beyond the initial high-grade area. The mine’s processing plant has throughput permitted to 127 500 t/d.

A change in legislation in June 2024 has increased the permit allowance from 5% to 10%, allowing for throughput to increase from 133 800 t/d to about 140 000 t/d.

Considering this, studies are under way for an incremental expansion of the processing plant to 140 000 t/d, potentially by late 2026.

Subsequent expansion options, including an option to increase the plant throughput to
150 000 t/d, are in the prefeasibility study stage and, subject to further permitting, could benefit production from late 2027.

Local and regional expansion potential of the mine is also being evaluated.
