JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed his attendance at the Mining Indaba taking place in Cape Town next week, from Monday to Thursday.

Ramaphosa, accompanied by eight ministers and three deputy ministers, will deliver a keynote address on Tuesday, 7 February.

Accompanying the President will be Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe, Mineral Resources and Energy Deputy Minister Dr Nobuhle Nkabane, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, Deputy Finance Minister Dr David Masondo, Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Ebrahim Patel, Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele, Deputy Minister in the Presidency Thembi Siweya, Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development Minister Thoko Didiza, Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Minister Barbara Creecy, Higher Education, Science and Innovation Minister Dr Blade Nzimande, and Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi

The President’s participation in Investing in African Mining Indaba is expected to put his investment and structural reform agenda forward as key to improving South Africa’s standing as a mining investment destination.

Critical to this will be the commitment to finding lasting solutions to the power challenges crippling the South African economy and the move to green energy.

President Ramaphosa recently unveiled a R1.5-trillion five-year investment plan to bolster the country's just transition to a greener economy.

Mining Indaba portfolio director Simon Ford highlighted the high-level participation of government and State officials, noting that the continent was demonstrating a serious commitment to welcoming investment in mining.

Investing in African Mining Indaba is the largest mining investment event in Africa, with a proven track record of bringing together key mining participants.
