ASX-listed Savannah Goldfields has secured two further environmental approvals to advance the restart of gold production at its Georgetown processing plant, in Far North Queensland.

The Queensland Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation has authorised the company to process material from the Big Reef project at the Georgetown plant. Savannah will begin mining at Big Reef in October, targeting 18 000 t of ore from the deposit’s inferred mineral resource of 107 000 t at 3 g/t gold, containing about 10 000 oz.

The company also received approval for Phase 1 of an expansion to the Georgetown plant’s tailings storage facility, providing an additional 125 500 t of capacity. Construction is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2026.

Savannah CEO Brad Sampson welcomed the regulatory support, noting that approvals were being processed “promptly and professionally”. He added that the company remained on track to resume gold production in October.

Savannah is also advancing exploration at the Big Reef Extended prospect, where reverse circulation drilling began last week to test strike extensions of about 1.5 km.
