London-listed Kodal Minerals has confirmed the death of a security guard employed at its Bougouni lithium mine, in Mali, following an attack by assailants on motorcycles on August 22.

"Military forces positioned at the site, which support the company's security operations, engaged the attackers, who quickly fled the scene. Regrettably, an employee of the company's security contractor died at the scene. No other personnel were injured," Kodal notes in a statement to shareholders.

The company adds that it is working with the Mali government to ensure the security of staff and contractors at the mine. The presence of military security has also been increased.

Mining and processing activities at the Bougouni mine have not been impacted by the incident.
