Project Description
Zimplats plans to increase capacity at its smelter operation with the construction of a new 36 MW furnace and the installation of sulphur dioxide (SO2) abatement plant.

The project was approved in November 2021.

First matte production from the new furnace is scheduled for the third quarter of the 2024 financial year, with commissioning of the acid plant expected in the first quarter of the 2025 financial year.

Implats has reported the technical completion of Zimplats’ smelter expansion and SO2 abatement project in its interim results for the six months ended December 31, 2024, released on February 27, 2025.
