As sustainability becomes central to long-term mining viability, companies are increasingly taking a holistic, integrated approach that spans the full asset lifecycle. This shift was explored when sustainability consultancy SLR Consulting Mining & Minerals Sector lead for Middle East and Africa Angus Bracken was interviewed by Mining Weekly during the Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town on Monday, February 9.

In the video interview, Bracken shared his perspective on the key drivers behind this evolution, including investor expectations, regulatory pressures and the need for operational resilience in a changing global environment. He discussed how SLR Consulting’s integrated technical, environmental and social expertise supports mining companies in planning and delivering resilient, future-ready projects.

The conversation also examined how renewable-energy integration is becoming a core component of sustainability strategies for mining clients across Africa and the Middle East, helping to reduce emissions, manage costs and enhance energy security. In addition, Bracken highlighted how digital tools and data-driven insights are transforming the way mines manage environmental impacts, social performance and closure planning.

Concluding the interview, Bracken outlined what distinguishes SLR Consulting’s partnership-based approach when working with clients, regulators and communities, and how this collaborative model supports the delivery of credible, long-term sustainability outcomes across the mining value chain.
