Name of the Project
Speewah vanadium/titanium/iron project.

Location
Speewah comprises the Central, Buckman and Red Hill deposits on the western part of the Northern Australian Craton, in Western Australia.

Project Owner/s
Tivan.

Project Description
Speewah is the largest, highest-grade vanadium-in-titanomagnetite resource in the world.

Tivan is focused on the initial development of a conventional salt-roast processing operation at Speewah to produce vanadium oxides and ferrovanadium. The salt-roast pathway is considered the optimal approach to start commercialisation of the Speewah resource and vanadium production.

The project will comprise mining, beneficiation and processing operations integrated at the mine site.

Planned Start/End Date
First production is scheduled for 2027.

Latest Developments
Speewah has been granted 'major project status' by the Australian government, one of only 16 projects nationwide to receive this recognition.

The award recognises the national significance of the project and its alignment with the Australian government’s critical minerals strategy and national battery strategy.

Consequently, the project will receive direct support from the Major Projects Facilitation Agency, including assistance with government approvals and coordination efforts.

The major project status designation will remain in place for three years, starting on November 29, 2024

Meanwhile, Tivan has been awarded a A$7.4-million cash grant under the Australian government’s International Partnerships in Critical Minerals (IPCM) programme for the project.

The IPCM supports early- to mid-stage critical minerals projects that contribute to the development of end-to-end supply chains with Australia’s international partners.

Tivan’s successful application included plans for the feasibility and definitive feasibility studies for Speewah, aligned with the programme’s eligibility criteria.

Tivan’s strategic partnership with Sumitomo Corporation, a major Japanese trading house, played a key role in securing the grant.

Sumitomo has signed a strategic alliance agreement with Tivan and provided a letter of support for the IPCM application. The alliance lays the groundwork for a joint venture (JV) to develop, finance and operate the Speewah project.

The grant funding will be matched by Tivan, either directly or through the JV, and will be allocated to activities, including engineering, mine design, hydrology, environmental studies and exploration drilling, in support of the feasibility studies.

Tivan is targeting a final investment decision in the first quarter of 2026.
