SQM pulls out of WA lithium hunt with Tambourah

Chilean lithium giant SQM has walked away from a deal to earn into Tambourah Metals’ Julimar North project in Western Australia, pulling back from further exploration investment in the early-stage asset.

Tambourah Metals told the ASX on Wednesday that SQM had opted not to meet its initial exploration spend of A$1.5-million and would withdraw from the project.

Under the earn-in agreement, signed in July 2023, SQM had the right to acquire a 50% interest in the Julimar North tenements by funding exploration and development work. That agreement has been terminated by mutual consent.

The Perth-based junior said it would assume full control of the project and that it would seek a new partner once previous exploration data was in hand.

Tambourah holds a spread of gold and critical minerals assets across Western Australia, including lithium, rare earths, and nickel prospects.
