JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Electric furnaces and associated plant equipment supplier Tenova Pyromet, part of the international Tenova Mining & Minerals Group, has been awarded a contract to supply its copper cooling technology to Xstrata Technology, the company said on Monday.

This contract award followed the successful installation of plate coolers in two platinum group metals furnaces in South Africa.

“One of the major reasons for the continuing strong demand for Tenova Pyromet’s copper products, is that all our product designs can be customised to suit a variety of furnace shapes and sizes and cooling requirements,” Tenova Pyromet sales and marketing GM Andre Esterhuizen said.

Tenova Pyromet’s product range included water-cooled copper contact shoes, which had been a standard requirement in the industry for many years, as well as a full range of copper cooling elements for use in the slag zone of furnaces.  These coolers included “cigar” coolers, which were used for localised cooling, and Tenova Pyromet’s registered SafeCool finger coolers and Maxicool coolers.
