Titan Mining welcomes 160% US duties on Chinese graphite imports
NYSE American- and TSX-listed Titan Mining says newly finalised US trade duties on Chinese graphite imports mark a pivotal shift for the domestic supply chain, strengthening the economic case for American natural flake graphite production.
The company welcomed the US Department of Commerce’s decision to impose aggregate antidumping and countervailing duties of at least 160% on certain Chinese graphite products. The determination follows Commerce’s conclusion that Chinese producers unfairly dumped and subsidized graphite in the US market.
Titan described the duties as a “structural shift” that materially changes the economics of Chinese imports and reinforces the need for secure domestic supply. The measures will remain in place for a minimum of five years if affirmed by the US International Trade Commission in March 2026 and are separate from existing US import tariffs.
The US currently imports all of its natural graphite requirements, with China dominating global production and downstream processing. That concentration has been widely viewed as a strategic vulnerability for sectors including defence, advanced manufacturing, energy storage and industrial applications.
Titan operates the Kilbourne graphite demonstration facility in St. Lawrence county, New York, where it is producing natural flake graphite concentrate and advancing customer qualification. The company is progressing plans to scale up to a 40 000-t-a-year integrated mining and processing operation, targeting supply of nearly half of US natural graphite demand.
Titan also produces zinc concentrate at its wholly owned Empire State mine in New York.
