Multotec is celebrating its 20-year anniversary in Canada, marking two decades of innovation, growth, and commitment to North America’s mining and mineral processing landscape. Since establishing its Canadian branch in 2005, the company has grown from a modest regional operation into a strategic hub, supporting the North American market with high-performance process equipment and local technical expertise and hands on customer support.
Over the past two decades, the Canadian branch has grown from a single staff member to a team of more than 20. From its Edmonton (2005) and Montréal (2012) offices, Multotec now serves customers across Canada, Mexico, parts of the United States (US) and Central America, and the Caribbean.
The branch was initially established in response to the rapid growth of Canada’s diamond mining sector and the need for more effective local support. Niel Lourens, Vice President of Cyclones & Spirals at Multotec says, “The remoteness of these mines and extreme weather conditions made supplying products from the South Africa head office challenging, highlighting the need for an in-country presence and local manufacturing. To address this, Multotec established a warehouse in Edmonton and a manufacturing facility in Montréal for its core cyclone range, ensuring secure supply and faster, more reliable delivery across North America.”
Leveraging its global track record in diamond processing and metallurgical sampling, Multotec quickly gained traction in Canada. Its dense medium cyclones and related equipment became industry standard across key operations, including the Ekati, Diavik, Snap Lake and Gahcho Kué mines in the Northwest Territories, the Victor mine in Ontario, and the Renard mine Stornoway in Quebec, while its metallurgical sampling equipment became highly favoured in the region for accurate and representative sampling, with a notable installation at a gold mine in Nevada, in the US.
As the branch matured, so did its product offering and commodity reach. Lourens explains: “What began with dense medium cyclones for the diamond sector has evolved into comprehensive support across multiple markets. Today, Multotec supplies a full range of cyclones, along with slurry pumps, valves, wear parts, spirals, samplers, and wedge wire screens throughout North America. Multotec is also the exclusive agent for Kemix spare parts, eDart Group valves and process control samplers, and is the distributor for Siebtechnik industrial centrifuges in Canada.”
This diversification opened new markets. In coal, Multotec supplied ceramic-lined dense medium cyclones and classification cyclones to the Elkview several coal mines in British Columbia and Alberta. In gold, its equipment is now deployed across Ontario, Quebec, and Manitoba. The company has further extended its reach into the iron ore sector in northern Quebec and Labrador.
Building on two decades of momentum
Over the years, the branch has become a fully self-sustaining operation, built through consistent, organic growth and a customer-centred model that prioritises long-term process support over product sales. Looking ahead, the company aims to expand its North American footprint and grow the business through various strategies. This includes strengthening regional technical resources, increasing local manufacturing output, and expanding service capability to ensure quicker responsiveness and better accessibility for clients.
With a strategic portfolio of advanced process equipment and a locally based team of engineers and metallurgists supported by Multotec’s global technical expertise, the branch is sharpening its flexibility. This agility will allow the branch to respond quickly to market shifts, adapt to regional requirements, and continually innovate to deliver added value.
Driving this next chapter of growth, Réjean Foisy, General Manager for Multotec Canada, the US, Mexico, and Central America says: “We have always operated as more than an equipment supplier, our engineers and specialists work side by side with our customers to improve process efficiency, reduce downtime and deliver measurable performance outcomes.”
“Our ability to provide local, hands-on technical support is what sets us apart and will remain the backbone of our growth strategy,” Foisy continues. “As we expand, we remain committed to delivering responsive, high-quality support to our existing customers while developing process solutions that are truly engineered and customised to the specific needs of the North American mining and minerals processing industry.”
