Control valve manufacturer PSV Mitech says it is committed to continuously upgrading and adding to its range of valves.

“While the basic design philosophy of our general-purpose Globe Control valves has remained the same since the company’s founding in 1986, we operate a system of continuous improvements, specifically on our bespoke valves, which is our core business product,” PSV Mitech engineering manager Peter Connan tells Mining Weekly.

He says that the standard PSV Mitech Globe Control valve can be used for many applications and offers high positioning accuracy and tight shut-off functions, low noise, cavitation control, energy-dissipating trims and compact sizing, as well as robust construction.

Connan explains that the Globe Control valve’s modular design can be easily adapted to meet many special requirements, such as high or low temperatures, corrosive duties, three-way configuration and high-pressure drop applications.

All PSV Mitech’s valves are designed and manufactured locally using local and international raw materials.

Connan notes that the valves’ body materials are manufactured from carbon steel, stainless steel, bronze, chrome-moly and special alloys, adding that it uses the ideal material for high-pressure and extreme operating conditions.

The PSV Mitech range of control valves uses the clamp in place, free-floating seat design.

“All trim components are designed to clamp in place, so the valve can be quickly configured to the user’s specific process requirements. The free float of the seat and plug during assembly means that stem, plug and seat alignment is easily achieved when compared with alternative designs,” he asserts.

Connan explains that the free-float design provides the user with longer stem seal life and better valve shut-off performance.

He advances that the simplicity of the valves’ configuration allows for quick and easy maintenance, adding that no special tools were required to achieve the design performance of the valve.

Connan states that the company’s range of control valves are used in many of the deep-level mines to control the flow of machine and drinking water and to control the water at the deeper levels, where the high pressures become challenging.

PSV Mitech also has a large installed base at certain local refineries.

“Should a valve be returned for repair, it is treated as an opportunity to learn more about our product’s performance,” Connan says.

He explains that the wear patterns of the valve are analysed to gain a better understanding of the process conditions and that the design of the specialised trims, which are at the core of the company’s offerings, is continuously being improved.

Moreover, he says that PSV Mitech’s valve body and trim designs are supported by extensive computational fluid dynamics software analysis, which analyses the product’s performance to determine the best ways of improving it.

PSV Mitech’s Globe Control valves are specifically designed for applications in the petrochemical, mining, food and beverage, pulp and paper and power generation industries.
