Canada Fluorspar, the company that recently bought the insolvent St Lawrence mine in Newfoundland, has a new CEO.

Eben Visser, a mining executive with experience in project development, has taken up the position as CEO with immediate effect, chairperson Rudolph de Bruin announced on Monday.

De Bruin’s African Minerals Exploration and Development Funds (AMED) bought the Canadian fluorspar mine last month and plans to reopen it before the end of the year. AMED also owns a fluorspar operation in South Africa.

De Bruin welcomed Visser to Canada Fluorspar and said that his appointment was an important step in achieving its goal of being a world-class player in the global fluorspar market.

Visser is an experienced mechanical engineer with global metallurgical plant construction and commissioning experience. He spent his earlier career with several mining and mining-contiguous organisations, including the DRA group of companies, where he supported and project-managed several important global mining initiatives.

Most recently, he held senior positions with Treasury Metals and Vital Metals in Toronto.

Visser is a permanent resident of Canada and holds a B.Eng. (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Pretoria (South Africa). He also holds a postgraduate diploma in Advanced Project Management (APM) and is a registered Project Management Professional (PMP) with the Project Management Institute.
