Waco Modular has reached a significant safety milestone, achieving over 1 million man-hours without a single Lost Time Injury (LTI). This accomplishment showcases the company’s unwavering commitment to safety, care, and operational excellence across Africa, and comes as the company also celebrates 30 years of delivering fast, smart, modular building solutions.
The accomplishment reflects more than six years of injury-free operations, which is a rare achievement in the construction, manufacturing and modular-building sectors, where high-paced activity and complex environments often elevate risk.
A culture built on safety, care, and accountability
Karen Olivier, Business Manager at Waco Modular, says the milestone is the result of a deeply rooted safety culture that extends far beyond compliance.
“Reaching one million man-hours without a Lost Time Injury is a true reflection of our people and their commitment to safety,” says Olivier. “Our teams show up everyday prioritising accountability and excellence. This milestone belongs to everyone on the ground, in our factories, and on our sites, who understand that protecting one another is essential to our success.”
She adds that Waco Modular’s core values, integrity, excellence, innovation, responsibility, and care guide every health and safety initiative across the business.
Making safety engaging and effective
The company’s exceptional safety record is supported by a range of initiatives, including training programmes, awareness campaigns, and employee participation activities designed to keep teams alert, informed, and motivated.
“We have introduced programmes that make safety both meaningful and fun. From interactive sessions to team challenges, we use creativity to keep safety front of mind. Engagement is everything, once employees take ownership, safety becomes a shared responsibility rather than a top-down expectation,” Olivier explains.
A legacy of building people, safely and sustainably
While celebrating its 30th anniversary, Waco Modular reflects not only on delivering world-class modular infrastructure but also on investing in the wellbeing of its people and the communities it serves.
“Safety is at the heart of enabling a better tomorrow,” Olivier continues. “We don’t just build structures, we build opportunities, support communities, and protect the people who make it all possible.”
Over the years, Waco Modular has also supported multiple non-profit organisations, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to community upliftment and social responsibility.
Raising the bar for safety in modular construction
With rising demand for modular infrastructure across sectors such as mining, education, healthcare, and commercial development, Waco Modular continues to set benchmarks for safe, efficient, and sustainable delivery.
“This milestone inspires us to go even further,” Olivier concludes. “Our vision is simple: to ensure that every employee goes home safe, every single day. As we look to the next 30 years, safety, measured in every Lost Time Injury avoided will remain the foundation of our success.”
