Africa’s diverse mining environments demand solutions that are not only robust and efficient, but also adaptable to local operating conditions and sustainability challenges. These issues were the focus of Weir Africa MD Bridget Ledwaba’s interview with Mining Weekly ahead of the Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town.

She reflected on Weir’s long-established presence across the continent and how operating in various African mining jurisdictions continues to shape the way the company designs and delivers integrated mining solutions. Ledwaba discussed how close collaboration with customers – ranging from major blue-chip operators to emerging mining projects – plays a central role in guiding technology development and solution engineering.

The discussion also explored how Weir is helping African mines address some of their most pressing operational challenges, including the need to improve energy efficiency while maintaining or increasing throughput and plant performance. With water scarcity affecting many mining regions, Ledwaba outlined how Weir’s water-efficient technologies and responsible water-management strategies are supporting more sustainable operations.

Finally, Ledwaba highlighted how Weir’s portfolio of globally recognised brands – such as Warman, Cavex, Linatex and Motion Metrics – combined with digital innovation, is enabling African mines to operate more safely, productively and sustainably as the industry moves toward a low-carbon future.
