Welding equipment supplier PTS Welding & Industrial Supplies is launching a new range of innovative welding, cutting and gas products and services for the mining and fabrication industries at this year’s Electra Mining Africa show.

PTS Welding & Industrial Supplies MD Paul Stolarczyk says that clients are increasingly demanding improved safety standards and reduced costs. “With our exclusive access to leading original-equipment manufacturer suppliers, we meet these objectives while also meeting the highest international standards and quality approvals,” he says.

The company is launching a completely new range of innovative welding machines, including the Supreme Arc 200, a fully digital single phase 160-260V/50HZ input welding machine with double insulation for elevated safety.

The unit delivers a 100% duty cycle at 180 A at 40 ºC. It boasts the new digital intelligent one-touch control function for current, arc force and ignition current control. In addition, the unit features an anti-stick function. Weighing in at only 3.1 kg, gouging is made easy with this unit.

The Rehm Tiger Ultra 180-230AC/DC bi-inverter compact tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding machine will also be launched and comes with new benchmark benefits, such as 17.5 KHz Hyperpuls, Dualwave Hyperpuls and Hyperspot functions.

The fully digital dynamic graphic display screen with its R-Pilot single rotary encoder is both impact and shock resistant and absorbs the mechanical effects of welding, making it extremely robust. The machine also comes with the exclusive ‘Rehm Assist’ function, which provides all the critical information for the welding task, “just like having an on-site welding engineer”, notes Stolarczyk.

A built-in computerised memory allows for easy recalling and loading of up to 99 programs for existing jobs. This handy machine weighs just 7.1 kg and delivers 230 A from a single phase 220 V 16 A slow blow fuse. It has a new single button rotary encoder for its eight process variants masters and ensures the correct arc application for every use. The tunnelled air channel design protects the encapsulated electronics from contaminated air and grinding dust. It also successfully passed the 90 cm drop test.

The Merkle High Pulse machine, meanwhile, takes the leading welding technology a step higher with new controls and a Tedac digital torch. It has extremely low spatter-free welding, owing to non-short circuit characteristics with one drop transfer. The machine offers time savings, high deposition rates, and a long consumable life.

The DeepARC, Cold metal inert gas (MIG), HighUP, ProSwitch and Interpulse systems are included as standard processes in the Merkle High Pulse units.

Another machine on display is the MCU1000 calibration unit, which calibrates any MIG, TIG and manual metal arc machines up to 1 000 A. Calibration is a requirement according to standards such as DIN EN 1090, IEC60974, EN 50504 and DVS 3009. This guarantees reproducible welding results and production according to certificated welding procedure specifications. This range of measurement covers welding current, welding voltage, wire feed speed, gas flow, supply voltage and temperature to an accuracy of about 1.0%.

The company is also launching a range of welding helmets, including Weltek welding helmets fitted with an Airkos air purifying respiratory system. Another welding helmet to be launched is the Cobra digital welding goggle with variable shade adjustment, clever shield and soft hood.

PTS Welding will also be promoting its exclusive ranges of Contessi Oxygen Lancing equipment; Gullco’s Welding automation solutions, Kat system ceramic weld backing and plate beveling machines; Kayser’s regulators and LPG heating torches; Kemper fume extraction equipment, Lastek superior high-quality construction wear, maintenance and repair welding consumables specifically for hard facing applications on crushers and augers in the cement and mining industry; Smith Equipment gas cutting torches and specialised application nozzles; Wescol regulators and flowmeters conforming to BS EN ISO 2503:2009 standards and cutting torches conforming to BS EN ISO 5172:1998 standards; and Yawata’s industry-leading high-quality welding electrodes and consumables with multiple international approvals.
