ASX-listed unhedged gold miner West African Resources has confirmed that its Sanbrado mine, in Burkina Faso, is on track to achieve full-year production of between 190 000 oz and 210 000 oz, while its Kiaka gold project is still expected to produce between 100 000 oz and 150 000 oz.

The Kiaka project, also in Burkina Faso, achieved its first gold pour in June. Openpit mining at Kiaka ramped up as planned, with production now achieving targeted material movements.

The project is expected to produce about 234 000 oz/y of gold over the next 20 years, with reporting of this mine's production figures to start from the third quarter.

“This has been a transformative quarter for West African with our large, long-life, low-cost Kiaka gold project now operational alongside our Sanbrado gold operation, which continued its strong reliable performance in the second quarter with gold production of 45 611 oz," comments West African chairperson and CEO Richard Hyde.

Gold sales for Sanbrado for the second quarter was 49 840 oz at an average price of $3 282/oz.
