Wheaton names Hodaly CEO as Smallwood steps up to chair
Precious metals streaming company Wheaton Precious Metals has announced a leadership transition that will see president Haytham Hodaly succeed co-founder Randy Smallwood as CEO from March 31, 2026, as part of its long-term succession planning.
Smallwood, who has led the company for more than 15 years, will step down as CEO and assume the role of nonexecutive chair of the board, while current chair George Brack will become lead independent director.
Hodaly, who joined Wheaton in 2012 and was appointed president in 2025, will also join the board when he takes up the CEO role.
“I am honored to step into the role of president and CEO at such an exciting time in both the company's history and the broader precious metals market,” Hodaly said.
“We have a clear vision for the future and an exceptionally strong foundation from which to grow, positioning us well to support the next generation of mine builders in an unprecedented environment for gold and silver.”
He added that the company remained focused on “delivering sustainable value for all stakeholders”, while thanking Smallwood for his guidance and the board for its confidence.
Under the leadership changes, Smallwood’s continued involvement is expected to provide strategic continuity as Wheaton pursues its next phase of growth.
“Building and leading this extraordinary organisation alongside such a dedicated and talented team has been the privilege of my career,” Smallwood said.
“I can truly say that I have never been more confident in our future. Haytham has been instrumental in shaping Wheaton's success to date, and his leadership will be an essential element of our anticipated next phase of transformative growth.”
Since co-founding Wheaton in 2004 and becoming CEO in 2011, Smallwood has overseen the company’s development into one of the world’s largest precious metals streaming businesses, with a focus on disciplined capital allocation, high-quality assets and sustainable practices.
Brack praised Smallwood’s contribution to the company and the wider sector.
