Almonty enters US with acquisition of Montana tungsten project
International miner Almonty Industries has entered the US tungsten sector with the acquisition of a 100% interest in the Gentung Browns Lake project in Beaverhead county, Montana, adding one of the country’s most advanced undeveloped tungsten assets to its portfolio.
The NI 43-101 resource for Gentung Browns Lake stands at 7.53-million tonnes grading 0.315% tungsten at a 0.10% cut-off. The contact metasomatic garnet skarn deposit will be mined using room-and-pillar methods in competent skarn rock. Metallurgical testwork indicates tungsten recoveries above 90% and garnet recoveries of 20% to 25%.
The project has road access, nearby power, water rights and an existing mill site. Almonty holds exclusive rights to explore and develop the Gentung–Browns Lake corridor and is targeting potential production readiness in the second half of 2026. Output is expected to be about 140 000 metric ton units a year based on initial design expectations.
Almonty said the transaction strengthens US domestic tungsten supply capabilities at a time when defence, aerospace and technology sectors are seeking non-Chinese sources of the critical mineral.
Chairperson and CEO Lewis Black said the acquisition provides Almonty with a long-term US production base that can support strategic industries and aligns with government efforts to rebuild domestic supply chains.
Almonty aims to build an integrated Western tungsten platform spanning Europe, Asia and North America. The company is advancing construction of the Sangdong mine in South Korea, continues to produce from Panasqueira in Portugal, and has projects in Spain.
