Africa should adopt ESG focus
With over half of the world’s copper resources outside the mainstream mining countries and decarbonisation and the energy transition fuelling demand, African countries – where mining regulations are, perhaps, less robust – are becoming increasingly attractive.
The current situation has testing, inspection and certification multinational Bureau Veritas Africa senior VP Marc Roussel pondering the steps mine operators should take to protect communities and ecosystems to ensure the ‘future of mining’.
Roussel will participate at this year’s Investing in African Mining Indaba by sharing insights on sustainable mining in a panel discussion titled ‘Fragile Mining Jurisdiction: How are current world events, the energy crisis, and the need for decarbonisation affecting the most vulnerable communities?’
As a ‘business to business to society’ services company, Bureau Veritas “shapes trust between businesses, public authorities and consumers”.
A “world leader” in audit and certification services, Bureau Veritas supports clients to become more efficient, methodical and trustworthy in their journey towards more sustainable business and a more sustainable world.
“With a legacy spanning 200 years and present in 140 countries, our purpose is to preserve people, assets and the environment by identifying, preventing, managing and reducing risks. Participating at Mining Indaba 2023 – Stand N55 – with industry experts from across the globe demonstrates our commitment to supporting sustainable mining,” says Roussel.
Bureau Veritas partners the mining industry throughout the value chain from extraction through to processing and transportation.
Its services support the life cycle of mining assets from planning and design through procurement of components and equipment to construction and operation, thereby reducing risks, achieving consistent quality, reassuring local stakeholders, optimising efficiency and providing access to expertise through its global network of technical centres.
Mining Indaba 2023, themed “Unlocking African Mining Investment” takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from February 6 to 9, bringing together “industry giants” to discuss sustainable mining solutions to sustainable mining.
