Western Australia-based construction and engineering group Civmec has secured more than A$400-milllion worth of new contracts and extensions to existing contracts.

The new contracts and extensions are expected to be delivered in the second half of the 2026 financial year and into the 2027 financial year.

The newly awarded contracts include concrete and earthworks for a port debottlenecking project with iron-ore, copper and coal miner BHP at Nelson Point in Port Hedland, in Western Australia.

Civmec will be undertaking earthworks for the installation of a sixth car dumper, which is also being manufactured by Civmec at its Henderson fabrication facility, as well as general concrete works across the site for new conveyors and transfer stations.

To accommodate the sixth car dumper, Civmec’s scope of work will include a new batch plant to supply concrete, design new piling for the unit and manage all temporary works, as well as the installation of a temporary dewatering system.

The award of BHP’s Port Debottlenecking Project 2 civils package follows on another contract awarded to Civmec for steel fabrication. The company was tasked with providing about 700 t of structural steel modules, including one shuttle, four maintenance gates, an enclosure for the sixth car dumper and various other structures.

“We are delighted to be entrusted with this significant package of work. We are honoured to be trusted to deliver, particularly given the location and complexity of the scope, which plays to Civmec’s strengths.

“BHP were among our earliest clients and sustaining this healthy relationship makes this award especially meaningful, a further demonstration of our capabilities, and our proven, proactive and collaborative delivery model,” Civmec CEO Patrick Tallon comments.

Another major new contract for Civmec includes the construction of light mobile equipment and support mobile equipment charger facilities and pit power infrastructure at iron-ore miner Fortescue’s Eliwana and Flying Fish sites, in Western Australia.

Civmec will be undertaking construction, installation, verification and commissioning of multiple charger facilities, ranging from prefabricated direct current distribution units to integrated alternate current chargers, along with civil works and electrical integration for transportable pit power substations.

Notably, the substations are being designed for modular deployment, which will support the rollout of electric excavators and drills for Fortescue – as part of its decarbonisation objectives.

Moreover, Civmec has secured further maintenance contracts in Port Hedland and Gladstone, which Tallon says reflects increasing demand for Civmec’s integrated service capability.

Tallon says the new contract and extension awards reflect the group’s success in converting a strong pipeline of opportunities and reinforce Civmec’s strategic focus on continued early-contractor involvement, sustainable growth and order book diversification.
