Mining risk stakeholders and security forces will join their knowledge and understanding of one of the biggest threats to the sector, illegal mining. This objective platform, undertaken by Pinpoint Stewards, aim to strengthen collaboration during the two-day Mine Security conference on 25 & 26 June 2025 at the Indaba Hotel, Johannesburg.

As reported - Operation Vala Umgodi we have seen an intensified approach in tacking illegal mining. Through a collaborative approach with South African authorities the operation has resulted in 1,857 arrests and the confiscation of substantial illegal items, including over 100 unpolished diamonds, firearms, ammunition, and mining equipment. While this is encouraging news the fact remains, more can be done through united efforts to disable and slow down the detrimental effects of the crime syndicates involved.

Ankia Roux, Pinpoint Stewards says, “we hosted the inaugural online conference in 2021, it was clear that face-to-face interaction was key.  The in-person event has grown over the years with major mining companies awarding the needed time and attention in sending their risk and security professionals and key strategic players to benchmark, share contacts and gain best practices. Understandably, due to trust issues, silos have formed and the conference hopes to bridge this through direct interaction and networking.”

The conference will cover in-depth topics such as: understanding Organised Crime; the need for an integrated and multifaceted mining security strategy from the SA government; applying legislative amendments and dedicated investigation and prosecution to combat illegal mining activities; focusing on community engagement as a strategy to address security issues; interaction between technology and security personnel and optimising your response; unravelling Illegal Mining with tactical strategies and frontline lessons learnt; leveraging Financial Intelligence and forensics to support the investigation and prosecution in combating financial crimes in the mining Industry etc.

Speaker companies and panellist include: DPCI, BMA, FIC, SAPS, Palabora Copper, Rio Tinto RBM, Pan African Resources, Harmony Gold Mining Company LTD, Malan Scholes Inc, Unisa, Bidvest Protea Coin, UDS, Safer City Group.

The organisers are determined to ensure that this is THE biggest event for Mining Houses to support and invest in their security and risk efforts. Registrations open until 18 June 2025 - online registration www.pinpointstewards.co.za or email info@pinpointstewards.co.za
