Strong growth leads to blade technology introduction
CUTTING EDGE Bosch’s new NanoBlade technology is ideal for do-it-yourself applications
INNOVATION Bosch’s new generation of cordless screwdrivers for professionals
Engineering and electronics specialist company Bosch is set to introduce its NanoBlade technology in October this year to selected markets, with initial availability being targeted for Europe. This follows the company’s strong growth in power tools last year that resulted in a €4.5-billion turnover.
The NanoBlade technology is designed for the do-it-yourself market. It entails a saw blade equipped with a revolving micro- chain that consists of chain links that are 4 mm in size, which is similar to those of a chainsaw.
“The revolving chain means that pendulum movement consisting of high vibrations and saw blade running which is typical of jigsaws and saber saws are no longer required says,” Bosch Power Tools president Henning von Boxberg.
The NanoBlade technology is available in three new hand-held tools – the EasySaw 12 cordless multi-saw, that is suited for freehand cutting; and the EasySaw 50 and the MaxSaw 50 models designed for exact cuts.
The EasySaw 12 will be supplied with a 65 mm NanoBlade Wood Speed 65 saw blade, while the EasySaw 50 and MaxSaw 50 will both be supplied with a NanoBlade Basic 50.
The company notes that the long-lasting NanoBlades do not require maintenance, oiling or sharpening, with the chain also not requiring retensioning.
Bosch claims that the new saws can cut up to 100 m of laminate and softwood without having to replace the NanoBlade.
Upward Curve
The strong growth last year is the result of selling 50-million power tools globally and the company attributes this success to its consistent focus on the end-user.
The company claims that one-third of its turnover generated by power tools comprised innovative products and services that have been in the market for less than two years.
Owing to this, Bosch generated sales of more than €70-billion in 2015 across its operations, which consist of mobility solutions, industrial technology, consumer goods, and energy and building technology.
Products such as the Bosch Pocket Assistant – an application for smartphones that helps users find the correct power tool or accessory for a task through a smartphone was released on March 3 to support Bosch’s product range including the NanoBlade technology.
Once the application has been downloaded on a smartphone, users can scan the Bosch product and immediately receive the available information about the product including the technical specifications.
This is made possible by a pattern recognition function. Bosch Power Tools is the first manufacturer worldwide to implement this form.
Bosch emphasises that, with innovations such as NanoBlades, it is targeting stronger growth margins in power tools.
