Filtafelt launches new filtration media
PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN Filtafelt manufactures all its filter bags and press filter cloths locally
Local filtration solutions provider Filtafelt will launch its new range of PTFE-laminated filtration products, known as Synergy, at this year’s Electra Mining Africa trade show, taking place in September.
The Synergy range of filtration media is a thermobonded composite fabric with a substrate that is either a non-woven felt or a woven fibreglass fabric. The Synergy range achieves the highest filtration efficiency especially for sub-micron particles, says Filtafelt sales manager Johan Barnard.
Filtafelt will also exhibit its Pulse-Jet, Shaker, Reverse-Air, Filcomatic and Dalamatic filter bags, antistatic filter bags and its locally manufactured nonwoven fabric, among others. The company manufactures all its filter bags and press filter cloths locally at its technologically advanced facility in Rosslyn, Pretoria.
Filtafelt, which is a member of India-based Industrial Filters & Fabrics, is one of only two local manufacturers of nonwoven industrial fabric for dust and liquid filtration applications. Because Filtafelt manufactures the fabric in-house, specific fabrics can be manufactured to suit a customer’s specific needs. Most filtration bag providers are only able to supply standard products from imported fabrics, giving Filtafelt a significant advantage “as our products often outperform the standard fabric products”, says Barnard.
Filtafelt currently focuses on the cement, precious metals, steel and food manufacturing industries, but Barnard points out that “any manufacturer that generates dust or uses press filters in their processes is a potential customer”. The company has had much success in a range of industries, including sugar manufacturing.
Barnard notes that Filtafelt has a large African market share, with 75% of the company’s turnover being generated by exports. “We have found that our turnkey solutions attract customers that have limited access to expertise, owing to their remote location, so they are looking for a solution provider that can provide real value for money by offering guaranteed products with a long and efficient life span.
“Customers require products that are guaranteed to perform to specific standards. To supply such a product, one needs to understand the environment in which the product will work. It is also essential to find a supplier with advanced technical understanding of the processes and what will work within that process. Thus, finding the correct filtration media is crucial, resulting in a long and healthy bag life, unmatched performance, reduced maintenance and no environmental hazards,” concludes Barnard.
