A new Metals Focus report states that the combined scope 1 and 2 greenhouse-gas emissions from the world’s largest gold producers fell below 30-million tonnes last year for the first time since 2014. This, owing to asset divestments, renewable-energy projects and new grid connections. However, lower gold output also meant that the average emissions intensity increased for the third straight year.
