GoviEx demonstrates high recovery rates using simple heap leaping for Muntanga project
TSX-V-listed GoviEx Uranium has completed an extensive metallurgical testwork programme at Mintek, in South Africa, which aimed to demonstrate the viability of the company’s heap leach process for the Muntanga project, in Zambia.
The testwork has proven that the main deposits of Muntanga and Dibbwi East, which account for 80% of the measured and indicated resources, achieved uranium recoveries of 90% or better.
It has also proven short uranium recovery timeframes of within 20 days, as well as low acid consumption and fast kinetic rates of the mineralised material at Muntanga. The results support the potential for small on-off leach pads to be considered for the project.
The testwork completed by Mintek included comminution, agglomeration, 6 m sulphuric acid column leaching, ion exchange and uranium elution and precipitation for each of the six mineralization zones across the Muntanga project, based on material derived from a 2023 diamond drilling program.
This testwork was considerably more extensive than the previous work undertaken, which was predominantly limited to 2 m leach columns.
“These positive testwork results confirm the straightforward metallurgy at the Muntanga project, improving the accuracy of results which will be used in our feasibility study, [which is] due before the end of the year.
“With high uranium recoveries of 90% or better for the Muntanga and Dibbwi East deposits and overall low acid consumption, the data provides further confidence in the project’s processing design, helping to refine key assumptions and parameters for the upcoming feasibility study,” says CEO Daniel Major.
The Muntanga project comprises three mining licences and three exploration licences with a total combined area of 1 226 km².
