PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Contractor GR Engineering Services has been awarded two contracts worth a combined A$312-million at copper miner Oz Minerals' West Musgrave project, in Western Australia.

Under the contracts, GR Engineering would be responsible for the engineering design, project management and commissioning of the West Musgrave mineral processing plant, as well as the structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation construction works at the project.

“We are pleased to have been engaged by Oz Minerals to play a key role in the delivery of the world-class West Musgrave project,” said GR Engineering MD Tony Patrizi.

“This is an important project for GR Engineering as we have worked with Oz Minerals over many years on projects within the Oz Minerals group, including the West Musgrave project, and see this award as a strong endorsement of our proven delivery capabilities. We look forward to continue working collaboratively to deliver a safe and successful outcome on the West Musgrave project.”

The A$1.7-billion West Musgrave copper/nickel project is expected to have a mine life of 24 years currently, producing an average of 35 000 t/y of nickel and 41 000 t/y of copper in the first five years of operations, and 27 000 t/y of nickel and 33 000 t/y of copper in the remaining mine life.
