HJS South Africa celebrated its official launch on Friday 21 February 2025 at the Rustenburg Golf Club, marking a significant milestone in emission control technology and exhaust after-treatment for the mining industry. The event brought together key stakeholders, industry leaders, and international guests to discuss groundbreaking solutions for reducing diesel emissions in underground mining operations.
The launch event opened with Mr. André Robberts, Managing Director of HJS South Africa, officially welcoming attendees and emphasizing the company's dedication to providing OEM exhaust after-treatment and emission-reduction solutions. The industry was then formally introduced to HJS Emission Technology by Mr. Robin Trompetter, CEO of HJS Emission Technology, who presented the company’s product innovations and commitment to cleaner air solutions.
Dr. Amu Modau, Operations SHERQ Manager at ARM Platinum and Coal, then shared key findings from her research on “Characterisation of Emission and Exposure to Diesel Engine Exhaust from Trackless Mobile Machinery in Underground South African Platinum Mines: Evaluating Strategies to Prevent and Control Exposure” in the keynote address of the day. Dr. Modau highlighted the importance of effective diesel particulate filtration for mine workers’ safety in underground mines, emphasizing the crucial role of diesel engine maintenance on machinery and the addition of HJS Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) in mitigating Diesel Particulate Matter exposure levels and risks.
Ms. Constance Kekana, Director of Occupational Hygiene at the Department of Mineral Resources South Africa (DMR), closed off the official dialogues by providing an insightful legislative update on regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements related to emissions in mining environments.
The event was attended by international guests from leading companies such as Deutz, Bosch Rexroth Germany and Africa, Fluid Competence Germany, Total Energies Germany and Africa, and the HJS Emission Technology Executives from Germany. Key mining industry representatives included those from Sibanye Stillwater, Sandvik, Samancor, Komatsu Underground, Triple M Mining, ABC Ventilation, and Impala Platinum, among other stakeholders.
Industry partners and suppliers such as Deutz Dieselpower, John Ratcliffe, Rham, Schauenburg, Masslift Africa, ECS, Special Risk Solutions, Dispro, LektraTech, Donaldson Filtration, and Khulesonke Rebuilders were also present, demonstrating broad support for innovative emission technology solutions across all industries in South Africa.
Beyond the formal presentations, the event fostered engaging discussions on emission technology, valuable networking opportunities, and industry collaboration. Despite the rainy weather flooding the golf course during the week, attendees enjoyed a vibrant atmosphere with great food, entertainment, and lots of fun at the driving range.
The launch of HJS South Africa marks a significant step forward in enhancing safety, regulatory compliance, and social responsibility within the mining sector.
