Having worked with more than 1500 supervisors, business management consultancy OIM Consulting has seen competencies increase from 19% to 56%, and role execution improving from 51% daily to 89%, thereby improving productivity.

This, company MD Arjen de Bruin says, is largely due owing to the company’s integration of competency assessments, classroom training and 24/7 face-to-face coaching via its performance framework, and through measuring the improved operational impact.

Considering that “everything hinges on the supervisor”, De Bruin explains that the supervisor “carries the culture” and that this is critical within any organisation or mining operation, as the supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the dialy operational targets are met.

“If they are not empowered, then mine productivity suffers. Therefore, OIM Consulting aims to create high performance cultures, efficient processes and competent leaders,” he adds.

As part of this objective, OIM Consulting will be launching its Supervisory Development Platform System (RAEDA) while simultaneously expanding the company’s work within the platinum industry.

FOOTPRINT

OIM Consulting is looking to expand globally within the mining and other sectors, and is currently working throughout Africa, though it is largely based in the Northern Cape and the platinum limbs.

The company recently started work in Lesotho and has completed projects in Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

All its staff are vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus, and the company has changed some of their products (such as competency assessments) so that it may be completed remotely.

“We are an implementation consultancy, so we do need to be physically on the ground with the supervisors to effectively coach them,” De Bruin concludes.
