Kwikot Joins Global Business Leaders in Driving a Just Energy Transition

South Africa has officially handed over its Business 20 (B20) Task Force recommendations to the G20, marking a historic milestone in the first-ever Africa-led G20 Presidency. Among the businesses shaping this global agenda is Kwikot, a Silver Tier Sponsor of B20 South Africa 2025 and an active participant in the Energy Mix & Just Transition Task Force.

The handover, held last week in Johannesburg, consolidated months of business-led consultation into a package of recommendations designed to accelerate the global energy transition. The Energy Mix & Just Transition Task Force, in which Kwikot plays a key role, putting forward solutions to:

·       Expand and modernise energy infrastructure

·       Mobilise sustainable financing for transition pathways and climate resilience

·       Accelerate renewable energy adoption while safeguarding energy security

·       Drive innovation in green technologies and across the energy value chain

With South Africa’s energy crisis still dominating headlines, the recommendations highlight the urgent need for public-private collaboration. Business leaders emphasised that Africa is not only participating but leading the global conversation on energy resilience and inclusivity.

Kwikot, a trusted water-heating brand in South Africa for over 100 years, is contributing practical expertise through its energy-efficient and renewable-ready heating systems. Currently, the household geyser accounts for approximately 40% to 60% of a home’s monthly electricity consumption, making it one of the most energy-intensive appliances in the household. By providing alternatives such as solar water heaters, gas solutions, heat pumps, and the locally developed Elon 100 and Elon Smart water-heating systems, Kwikot is helping South Africans lower their electricity use while preparing for a cleaner energy future.

“South Africa’s just transition will succeed only if it is inclusive – reaching households as much as industries. Kwikot’s role in the B20 is about ensuring that everyday people benefit from cleaner, more affordable energy solutions. We also recognise that the upfront cost of transitioning to alternatives like solar, gas, or heat pumps remains out of reach for many households. That is why we hope to work alongside the Department of Energy and Electricity to design programmes that make adoption more affordable and widespread, ultimately reducing household electricity consumption and alleviating pressure on the national grid,” said Murray Crow, Managing Director of Kwikot.

The B20 South Africa’s central theme - “Inclusive Growth through Shared Prosperity” - was reinforced during the handover. More than 3,000 business leaders from across 25+ countries contributed to the final set of recommendations delivered to the G20.

Daniel Mminele, Chair of the Energy Mix & Just Transition Task Force, emphasised that while the recommendations reflect African priorities, they are designed to contribute to the global agenda - positioning South African companies like Kwikot at the forefront of shaping the energy transition.

As advocacy efforts build ahead of the B20 Summit in November 2025, Kwikot will continue to champion solutions that balance sustainability, affordability and access – demonstrating how South African innovation can help drive the global clean energy transition.
