ASX-listed Lincoln Minerals has lodged a comprehensive submission with the South Australian government as part of its Green Iron and Steel Strategy expression of interest (EOI) process, aiming to establish a domestic green steel supply chain. The submission includes plans for a government-endorsed 2.5-million-tonne-a-year green steel plant.

Lincoln CEO Jonathon Trewartha said the company’s project had an aspirational target of producing six-million tonnes a year of high-quality magnetite concentrate, intended for both domestic use and export to the global green steel market.

“We are commencing the next phase of our Green Iron Partnering process, engaging with both domestic and global steel industry participants interested in partnering with Lincoln to develop this project,” he noted.

Lincoln’s green iron project, previously known as the Fusion project, is located on the Eyre Peninsula, where the company has been operational for over 15 years. The project is well-positioned to meet South Australia’s green steel goals, benefiting from its proximity to infrastructure, including ports and renewable power sources.

The company highlighted the project’s green credentials and strategic advantages, citing its strong regional connections, geotechnical stability, and the potential resource upside. Further, the project’s similarity to established SIMEC magnetite operations is expected to reduce development risks.
